Ginger? I hardly know her! Just kidding, we are actually very well acquainted after this date.

This goat has horns! My adventure began with the satisfying crack of a new bottle, and a quick sniff of what was to come. The waft immediately brought notes of citrus, and of course the namesake ingredient, ginger. Starting to think that I might have accidentally bought a wellness shot and not a hotsauce, I quickly grab a spoon to taste.

The lead flavor is a quick knock of bright, juicy pineapple. Unlike other citrous-forward sauces, Ginger Goat’s lead can be clearly identified as pineapple- a very tropical fruit. For a second I almost feel like I’m basking on a sunny, sandy beach, with a cold bottle of hotsauce in my hand. An identifiable acid is an admirable attribute when compared to other sauces where it often get lost in the blend, especially with more vinegar forward sauces.

Despite my gratitude, there’s not much time to ponder on the complexities of our favourite peduncle-grown fruit. Quickly the sauce drags me into the namesake ingredient- the ginger. Think of the warm, soothing spice of a good Indian curry. The onion, garlic, and ginger mashes together to be a delicious bundle of flavor. Somewhat predictably sauce isn’t at all light with the ginger flavor, and it’s proof is in the texture, where you can see small bits and strings of ground ginger root. While the texture isn’t the smoothest, I’m certain you aren’t tasting powdered spices.

Finally, the heat. If you considered the heat from the ginger a kiss on the cheek, the pepper heat might be a bite to your face. Seconds after my first spoonful, I’m desperately surveying the label to see who the perpetrator is; My eyes scan up and down before we lock eyes: Carolina Reaper. Soon the heat fades into a nice rolling warmth, but as I continue to taste as I write this review, I feel a gnawing heat in my stomach. Nothing unhandlable, but I would certainly call this a moderately hot sauce.

At the end of the day, this sauce is delicious. It would be amazing on some tacos, wings, or even to flavor up some leftovers. Quickly after tasting, I was on Ginger Goat’s website looking for other sauces, which I’d love to get my hands on.
